The chemical theory came from the fact that when you are in the MS, you get a lightheaded, pleasingly dizzy feeling. The theories include: aliens, hidden magnets, chemicals, and many more. So…: Experts have tried over & over again to determine what is the mystery of the Mystery Spot. It is quite easy to lift, surprisingly, but it is downright impossible to extend the ball to the end of it’s chain. The ball amazingly rolls upward! Inside there is a small iron ball hanging from the ceiling, hanging diagonally. The tour guide puts a small pool ball (pool as in the game) on the lower end of the board. It’s a small log with a board nailed to it, with one end of the board pointing diagonally up, and the other in the opposite direction. Outside the “House” is a sort of a standstill teeter-totter thingamajig. The building itself is very strangely constructed, with crooked pieces of plywood just nailed together. ![]() Inside is the very center, the core of Mystery Spot. The Mystery House: The Mystery House is a very weird place. When you reach the top of the hill/mountain, the tour guide shows you the highlight of the trip: the Mystery House. The tour guide explains that this is because of the distorted gravity of the mystery spot. Your feet are slipping and sliding all over the place. The Tour: As the tour guide shows you around, the not-so-steep hill that you are climbing suddenly feels like climbing Mount Everest. The friendly tour guide leads you around the 150 square foot expanse of trails and trees. Look around the gift shop and buy a few things until your tour takes off. Once You’re There: When You Get There, Don’t Hesitate: Buy tickets, you won’t regret it. Then it suddenly appears: a medium sized building and parking lot, with a few trails running nearby. You soon love al but a sliver of hope about actually finding the place, but you’re thinking that the historic drive is worth it. Down the turnoff, you drive for miles through thousands of giant redwood trees. Getting There: As you drive through Santa Cruz, taking twists and turns while reading your printout directions, you notice a turnoff called, “Mystery Spot Road” (I’m going to refer to it as “MS” now, okay?). This report is dedicated to my visit there, and the WOW factor it released. If you go there, you will be dazzled by the sheer impossibility of the place. Reservations are a good idea, especially on weekends.The Mystery Spot is a very strange place where gravity is twisted and meddled into crazy ways, almost impossible for the brain to comprehend. Fittingly, youll find the Mystery Spot within the redwood forests on the outskirts of Santa Cruz, off of, fittingly enough, Mystery Spot Road. Open Monday to Friday, 1000 to 1800 and Saturday-Sunday 0900 to 1900. The Mystery Spot is at 465 Mystery Spot Road, Santa Cruz, California. So go ahead and decide if this is real, a hoax, or a fascinating mystery. Of course, there is always a naysayer around to debunk the explanations that are being given. On some days, unless you have a reservation, it is impossible to visit after 1200. It is a circular area of effect around 150 feet or 46 meters in diameter. However, when two people of equal height stand on the blocks facing each other, one is clearly taller than the other. A carpenter’s “Spirit” level laid across them registers perfect equilibrium. So what is happening here? As you enter the redwood grove, a guide takes you on a 45-minute tour demonstrating a spot where two cement blocks face each other. Gravity seems to have been turned on its head. In this area, the laws of physics appear topsy-turvy.
